ExxonMobil's Gasoline Sulfur Removing Process Licensed in Oklahoma
The refinery joins an extensive list of worldwide locations where this process has been selected in order to meet new stringent gasoline specifications.
Sinclair will use this proven technology to satisfy its Tulsa refinery's current needs for gasoline sulfur reduction and to provide the flexibility required to meet future needs.
ExxonMobil refineries and EMRE licensee facilities have successfully demonstrated this flexible and robust technology. The SCANfining process selectively removes sulfur from catalytically cracked naphtha while minimizing octane loss. The technology uses a proprietary, selective catalyst (RT 225) jointly developed by EMRE and Akzo Nobel Catalysts and minimizes the loss of octane-rich olefins and hydrogen consumption. The Sinclair unit will have the capacity to process approximately 16,000 barrels per day of catalytic naphtha.
EMRE and KBR (Kellogg Brown & Root) will provide basic engineering for the project. KBR, whose parent company is Halliburton, supports the marketing and engineering of EMRE hydroprocessing technologies through the EMRE and KBR Hydroprocessing Technology Alliance.
EMRE is the research and engineering arm of ExxonMobil, a leading global oil, natural gas, and petrochemicals company whose subsidiaries have operations in nearly 200 countries and territories.
